HERNDON FESTIVAL May 31-June 3 herndonfestival.net This four-day festival will feature entertainment on three stages, a carnival, and fireworks on Saturday. Also visit Kids Alley, (where children can create artwork) an arts and craft show, a business expo, and a variety of food vendors. The Herndon Festival is free and open to the public, although there is a charge for some activities. CELEBRATE FAIRFAX! FESTIVAL June 8-10, 2018 Fairfax County Government Center 12000 Government Center Parkway Fairfax, Virginia 22035 celebratefairfax.com. Celebrate Fairfax! Festival is one of the largest festivals in Northern Virginia. The Fairfax County Government Center is magically transformed and filled with the fascinating sights and sounds of more than 300 exhibitors, food vendors, and interactive activities. Celebrate Fairfax! showcases live concerts on eight stages, a petting zoo, carnival rides, and great festival foods. A fun free activity for kids is the Fairfax Express Trackless Train Ride. Nightly fireworks are a highlight of the festival. Cost: $15 adults, $5 children. MARINE CORPS SUNSET PARADE June 12, 2018 7:00 pm Lincoln Memorial 2 Lincoln Memorial Circle, Washington, D.C. 20037 barracks.marines.mil Tuesdays throughout the summer months, the Marine Corps performs a one-hour Sunset Parade featuring the music of “The Commandant’s Own,” The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, and a precision drill by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. The Sunset Parade is free and open to the public. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the show. TASTE OF RESTON June 15-16, 2018 12:00 pm – 11:00 pm Reston Town Center 11900 Market Street, Reston, Virginia 20190 Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce presents Northern Virginia’s largest outdoor food festival, featuring samples from local restaurants, live music, beer and wine gardens, and much more. Admission is free, but tasting tickets must be purchased on site or in advance. Children can enjoy activities such as inflatables, face painting, and balloon artists. On-stage entertainment begins at six with the Rockets, a high energy cover band that gets people up and onto the dance floor. The City of Fairfax Band plays before a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30pm. LEESBURG INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION July 4, 2018 10:00 am Ida Lee Park 60 Ida Drive N.W. Leesburg, VA 20176 Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and neighbors: celebrate Independence Day in Historic Downtown Leesburg. The parade will start at Ida Lee Park. The American Originals Fife and Drum Corps add a patriotic sound to the parade, and is a favorite among parade viewers. The group will perform at the intersection of King and Market Street as a prelude to the parade. Conclude the evening at 6:00 pm and enjoy music, food, and a fireworks show at Ida Lee Park. LIVE FROM THE NATION’S CAPITAL: A CAPITOL FOURTH July 4, 2018 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm West lawn of the United States Capitol 1st Street & Constitution Avenue Washington, DC 20003 pbs.org A Capitol Fourth is a huge concert on the west lawn of the United States Capitol, also broadcast live by PBS, and puts viewer’s front and center for the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation. A Capitol Fourth always includes legendary Grammy Award-winning singers, performers, and members of Armed Forces. The finale of the show always concludes with a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with simultaneous fireworks and live cannon fire. The concert is free and open to the public.
